Fantails

Fantails are a large fish that will eventually need a spacious aquarium to thrive, you will need effective filtration as they are very a messy fish stirring up the substrate looking for food and this can lead to water quality problems, so it is a good idea to water test regularly to keep on top of any problems arising, along with a weekly partial water change (25%) and gravel clean. During warmer months make sure you have plenty of oxygen going into the aquarium this can easily be done with a spray bar or air pump and air stone. Feed fantails a varied and high fibre diet as digestive can be a

problem often causing buoyancy problems. Fantails tend to swallow air when thayare feeding this also can lead to problems so try to feed a sinking food if feeding flake this can be done by presenting it under water so that it sinks. Feed foods such as Flake, sinking pellets, Frozen or live foods such as blood worm, Mysis or Daphnia this will provide fibre and should be feed extensively to fish showing signs of swim bladder disease.
